Match tactics

I have been playing round robins and matches differently. I don't know if that's good for my game or not. I played last night's round robin games rather loosely. I struck the ball with medium impact and the lengths were somewhat short. The height against the front wall was ok (just above the service line) on the volleys, but they were not deep so they were subject to attacks. The drops were not shallow enough. My drives did not have a lot of pace and some of them were short. All in all, it presented my opponents lots of opportunities to attack.

When I played Larry, I stepped up my pace a little. However, I made an error on a volley that came off my body into the tin. I also seemed to have not warmed up my confidence to volley and attack my opponents.

Start out lobbing short balls into the back. Resist the urge to attack short shorts early with a drive. I never get the lengths of the drives early in the game. Start the back court game with 2 exchanges and then play a high cross court into the corner. Again resist the urge to drive the low cross courts early in the game.

Once I hit a few high quality rallies then I will feel more comfortable and confidence will rise. When confidence rise I will become more aware of my surroundings. I will have more time and I will start to play more deception and feint my shots.

When I hit a bad shot, I immediately slow down my mind and focus on being still when I hit the next shot with authority and follow through!

Niki said to use the first game in a match to warm up if I'm unable to warm up on court beforehand.
