Preparation for match

I'm scared, nervous, and a little bit excited. The skills level championship is 2 days away. I've done my best to train physically for this. I started the year with stadium runs and continued with stationary bike to improve stamina and endurance. My lessons have increased in difficulty and I've improved my quality of shots. I even rested and backed out of the Bay club event to let the irritated scar heal. My back and neck are no longer a distraction. I feel the best I have been since competitive fencing days.

I'm still scared and nervous, but I don't expect to feel differently. I'm just that type of guy. When it's time to perform, I get scared. What I should do about it is the test of nerves this competition will bear out.

To combat the possum, I need to pump up the heart rate before my match. That means I bike for 10 minutes. I have to warm up the extremities too.

1) quads & gluts (for lunging)
2) shoulder & waist (for rotating and squaring off to hit drives)
3) wrist & forearms (for holding the racquet, pornation)
4) eyes (watching the ball on contact and tracking its movement to the other player's racquet)
5) feet (taking corrective steps to position to hit the ball at proper arms length)

Another warmup is getting to the first calm state where I do not rush myself. The next stage of warmup is to reach the final calm state where I do not let the other player rush me!

I don't yet know how to trigger each stage of calmness, but I'm going to find something.
