I want to incorporate quick starts in my sprints and ghosting. Practice pushing off strong and quick. Practice the same movement at different speed and intensity - slow, medium, fast.
Stadium runs - start fast and finish slow
Suicide sprints - start and break fast
ghostings - start fast, retreat fast
sprints - start fast, turn fast
The ghosting routine should simulate specific combinations of shots in specific order. Like, skip step to the back backhand corner to hit a high drive followed by a fast drop volley to the front forehand corner, followed by a fast low forehand volley to the back forehand corner.
Also, during solo drills I must practice to pronate my wrist, and swing at different speeds for drives, volleys, and drops.
A key objective of the solo drills with and without the ball machine is to practice reaction. Following the ball trajectory and turning towards the ball. Taking the racquet back quickly.
Another key objective of the solo drills is practice hitting the proper length and width. This means I hit to the same length and width from anywhere on the court. This also means I know how high to hit the ball on the front wall to get the length I want.
The new training plan needs to adopt a goal for the lessons too. Niki's lessons and Richard's lessons are great, but I need to ask for specific skills to work on.
- lobs
- combinations
- deceptions
- change of pace
- boasts (offensive)
PS Do rock climbing to help clear my mind and acquire focus!
