What's with the grip?

After a couple of weeks of solo drills, I finally hit on something affecting the consistency of my straight drive.  When I hold the grip slightly turned up, I frame the ball more easily and hit it across my body more often.  I see now that I need to turn the grip back so the face is parallel to the front wall.

Also to keep the ball straight especially if the ball is in front of my shoulder instead of in line with my shoulder, I should step with my left foot in front.  That change dramatically improved consistency of the forehand straight drives. Stepping with the left foot in front also helps me reach forward for those short low bounces.
