I have fencing blade skills I always use and I have practiced to perfection - degagement coupe, beat degagement attack. I execute these attacks no matter what, they are my bread and butter. I don't have any in squash! When I get on the court, I don't really know what to do except to react to the other player. I imitate his pace and sometimes even his shots. I desperately need to develop my own set of shots that I can call bread and butter which I consistently stick to no matter what pressure I'm feeling.
'WINNING PACE'
From now on, I will practice a pace that I will play to and draw my opponents to play to. That pace is medium, ball just above the service line and landing just beyond the service box!
'BREAD AND BUTTER ATTACKS'
Forehand straight drives! Keep driving backhand until I can get a loose shot. Then volley drop straight and cross! I continue to drive deep again until I get another short ball.
Backhand straight drives! keep driving forehand until I can cut it off early with a volley boast or half volley boast! I continue to drive deep again until I get another short ball.
Use cross court drives only sparingly as a mean of diversion, as the game reaches midpoint. I continue to drive deep again until I get another short ball.
Add disguise in towards the end of the game.
'PRACTICE OBJECTIVE'
With this in mind, practice should be about playing with as many of the skills above as possible. I want to hit as many drives as I can to the exact pace and length.
I will not play to win. I will not let the other player draw me into a win/lose game. I will practice hitting drives no matter what shot I'm given.
