Wowed by the Pros

Watching the pro matches on DVD is inspiring. They make amazing feats. Most astonishing is their reaction to direction change and seeing the ball and moving so early. I could see I was not watching the ball well. The obvious sign is when I don't move for the mid court boasts.  Andrew was a hard hitting player that I simply did not see the boasts at all.  I felt good about playing some good squash for several points.  I regained composure at different part of the game with different players. Against Bob, I fell to 0-8 and rallied back to 5-8.

Where I want my game to go is definitely towards chasing down every shot just like Jonathan Powers.  I think that is simply amazing.  At the same time, I'd like to volley early like David Palmer.  He glides forward after a high looping boast to touch drop a ball into the corner before it bounces.

But first I have to work on watching the ball and spring for the shots. Those solo drills are needed to work on a compact swing with a snap.  I have to keep working on a low to high snap that drives the ball beyond the service box.  I hit those perhaps 3 out of 10 times right now and I need to hit them 9 out of 10.

On my next lesson I have to practice cross lobs and straight lobs.
